The Department of History was founded in 1963 and has currently one faculty member actively involved in teaching & research. The Department has been committed to work in conformance with the objectives of the institution for strengthening the teaching and learning processes. Faculty of the Department is continuously striving to keep the students abreast of the current knowledge about recent trends of their subject domain and also inculcate in them inquisitiveness about education and research. Class room interactions are an occasion to cultivate a range of related skills such as those of writing, critical thinking.
The department implemented online teaching in face of COVID19 to facilitate teaching-learning process; hopefully, in future online mode would complement classroom experience. Learning Outcome-based Curriculum Framework approach is employed to structure the teaching-learning experience in a more student-centric manner. An attempt is made to engage students with multiple perspectives on various historical themes and to enable them to analyze those perspectives critically. The exploration of past issues and of historical processes help students acquire necessary tools to tease out the underlying socio-political significations of the present and the past as well as the extraordinary.
At present the Department runs B.A Semester course. Throughout the academic session, experts from various fields of History as well as related disciplines are regularly invited to make presentations in College so as to let the students and the faculty engage with the best and the latest in social scientific research.
